Co-parenting expense tracker for shared child costs

Keep the cost, receipt, agreed split and payment history together instead of reconstructing them from bank transfers and text messages.

Give each expense enough context

A useful expense record explains what the cost was for, when it occurred and how it relates to your child. In CoParentOS, the financial workspace brings expenses and their supporting receipts together with approval, dispute and payment-record workflows.

For a school purchase, record the description and amount, choose the currency, attach the receipt and use the cost-sharing arrangement that applies. A 50/50 split is not automatically the right choice for every family. The app records the arrangement you enter; it does not determine what either parent is legally required to pay.

Separate a request from a payment

An expense request and a reimbursement are different events. Keep them distinct so an unapproved request is not mistaken for an agreed debt, and a payment somebody recorded is not mistaken for a confirmed receipt.

The existing workflow supports recording payments and the recipient’s confirmation, including cash acknowledgements and disputes where applicable. Entering a payment record does not itself transfer money. If a bank transfer happens outside CoParentOS, check its details separately before recording it.

What a clear expense record contains

  • The child-related purpose and date of the expense.
  • The original amount and currency, without treating different currencies as interchangeable.
  • The receipt or other supporting document, when available.
  • The relevant split and approval or dispute history.
  • Payment details and recipient confirmation where applicable.

If you have already discussed a cost, record the context in the appropriate place rather than assuming a bank reference will explain it later. For practical examples, see tracking shared expenses without arguments.

Keep different arrangements separate

An expense for a child you share with one co-parent should not appear in another co-parent’s financial workspace. Select the right arrangement before entering the expense or uploading a receipt. The same account can manage several arrangements without merging their balances or records.

Common questions

Can I record recurring costs?

The existing financial workflow supports recurring expenses. Review the amount, currency, split and schedule before generating installments; a recurring record does not mean every future cost has been agreed by both parents.

Is this a child-support calculator?

No. It organises costs and payment records. It does not calculate a statutory child-support assessment, enforce payment or decide legal responsibility.

Can I use it without the other parent joining?

You can start organising your own records. The other parent needs to participate for their in-app approvals or confirmations; do not represent your own record as their acknowledgement.
